Poi lessons with Alex beginners and intermediates £80 (£60 concessions) for a 6-week poi course wednesdays 7-8.30pm in Clapham Junction Spinning poi is fun, relaxing, and looks great at festivals or in the park or on the beach. It is also good for co-ordination and balancing activity between the two hemispheres of the brain which anecdotal evidence suggests is great for improving ADHD and dyslexia. Alex is a very experienced, patient and friendly poi teacher, having taught regular poi classes in London for over eight years, as well as teaching at UK festivals including Sunrise, Glade, and Shambala Family Camp. He has also performed at many parties and festivals including the Synergy Project, the Big Green Gathering and private events.
There are 2 levels of courses available: Beginner and Intermediate
Beginner is suitable for total poi beginners as well as those who only know a few poi moves or need their technique tidying up. Tuition is through group demonstrations and individual guidance of basic poi moves like reels, the windmill, giant windmill, extentions, pirouettes, corkscrew, butterfly, buzzsaw, and forwards and backwards weaves, building in stages up to more complicated poi moves like the turning weave and fountain. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CAN ATTEND ALL CLASSES AND MAKE TIME TO PRACTISE BETWEEN LESSONS
Intermediate assumes you are comfortable with the beginner level poi moves and builds on that foundation with moves like turning with butterfly, thread-the-needle, shoulder and hip butterfly and reel combination moves, four beat corkscrew and windmill, five beat weave, flowers, pendulums, stalls, and isolations. The focus is on showing ways to comfortably link moves together, explore new moves yourself, and freestyling. IMPORTANT! YOU MUST BE ABLE TO DO ALL BEGINNER MOVES BEFORE JOINING THE INTERMEDIATE COURSE!
an advanced course is also being planned which will include harder technical moves like behind the back weave, waist wraps, anti-spin flower variations, hybrids, triquetras, CAPs, hyperloops and uberloops.
The classes take place every wednesday (though other days are possible) and cost £80 for the 6 week course, or £60 for concessions, and MUST BE BOOKED AND PAID FOR IN ADVANCE. A discount of £5 applies if payment is received at least 30 days before the start of the course.
A range of practice tail poi are available for borrowing, or purchase at prices from £5 to £12
