FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS …

Can I bring my child to class?

Both you and other students are likely to focus more without distraction, so it is expected that you will make arrangements for the care of your children. If your children would like to learn, please call for details of children’s classes

Can I dance when pregnant?

Bellydancing is a great way to look after your health while pregnant and can help you gain control of muscles that will be used during the birthing process, helping increase blood flow to the region (also great for many gynaecological conditions), opening up your pelvis and training your muscles. I recommend dancing from the second trimester onwards. If you wish to dance during the first trimester, please let me know you are pregnant and please seek advice from your GP/Midwife/Doula.

Should I eat before class?

It is not advisable (for obvious reasons) to arrive at class with a full stomach; however you will soon find out that bellydancing is a great cardiovascular workout, so your body does need some fuel - a light snack such as a piece of fruit an hour before class will be enough.

What should I wear to dance in?

At beginner level the most important thing is to feel comfortable. So, I would recommend leggings, loose stretchy trousers (without zips, buttons) or a long skirt and a comfortable close fitting top with long or short sleeves are fine to dance in. You’ll find that hip scarves are not only great fun to dress up in, but also exaggerate and enhance your movements. ‘Quiet’ or ‘noisy’ ones are fine. Most people dance barefoot, but you can also wear ballet shoes or leather soled dance shoes. Socks are not permitted unless they have ‘grip’. All classes are ‘women only’; however, if you wish to wear a hijab during class this is fine - A selection of hip scarves and belly dance tops will be available to purchase from the tutor at some locations

Is the tutor qualified?

Yes - I have been dancing with JWAAD for a number of years and have just completed a JWAAD Certificate in Teaching Egyptian Belly Dance. In Spring 2008, I will continue onto the Diploma Course. I have full Professional Liability Insurance.
