Public Relations / Research Intern

The Brighton Synergy Centre will soon host a series of large ‘Synergy Project’ indoor festivals, featuring a wide variety of partners from Brighton and further afield. The events will feature a wide range of artforms, ranging from DJs, live bands, poets, dance performance, video installations and visual art as well as stalls, debates and discussions hosted by local and national non-governmental organisations working in the field of sustainable development, social justice, ethical and healthy living.

We are looing to enrol an intern / volunteer who is interested in social, political, cultural and even spiritual issues, such as a student of the social sciences, who can assist us with the outreach and engagement with the non-governmental organisations, the allocation of stall spaces at the Synergy Project events and the programming of films, debates and discussions.

The successful candidate will work directly with Managing Director of Synergy, Steve Peake, who has 20 years experience working in the campaigns sector and in organising highly acclaimed events which combine entertainment with awareness raising.

Person Specification:

  • An enthusiastic, positive minded individual used to working both in a team and independently.
  • Able to be flexible with the demands of the job and to be able to think creatively, with a passion for seeing their ideas successfully come to fruition.

Essential Skills :

Knowledge of progressive political, cultural and social issues.

Excellent written/ very good verbal English

A desire to both contribute to, and learn from a growing organisation

IT literate

Owns own laptop computer

As a Brighton Synergy Centre intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from our experienced staff, with a perfect opportunity for you to get some real, tangible experience working in the campaigns and NGO sector.

We are keen to also share in the success of the venue with those who show themselves to be the most willing and able during their time with us. We will therefore be offering interns several incentives, ranging from free entry to our events to a cut of the night’s profits, and even in some cases the chance to assume a paid role on the team.

In addition, the venue will also be hiring additional bar/ cafe/ door staff when operational and it should be noted that interns will be given 1st priority for these jobs (depending on experience).
